This site runs a custom CMS written in Python using Django. It is hosted by mod_python on Apache 2 smoking on a Debian server at Schlund. The database is PostgreSQL.
Atom feeds are served by FeedBurner. Photos are hosted on Flickr. Source control is handled by Git.
The site is built using standards-based semantic XHTML, CSS 2.1, and JavaScript with some Webkit and Mozilla extensions hinting on the forthcoming CSS 3 standard. The HTML and CSS (and all other source editing) was done using TextMate or VIM.
Everything was created on Macintosh computers exclusively.
And they got to pry that camera from my dead cold— what… ah, right, no stock photography here.
Internationalisation
Internationalisation is done using gettext. English is the main language, german content may be provided as soon as I find the time.
Browser support
The pure textual content of this site is available to every possible user agent. The styled content looks best on Safari. Firefox (and derivates) will give you a reasonable experience. IE6 is still supported, yet some things might look off. Optimizing for IE6 on my private site is just not worth the effort.
Thanks
Credit must be given to Python community and the creators of Django. Thanks for making web development exciting again.
A salute and many thanks to the web development community and wonderful resources like A List Apart and Bullet Proof Web Design (a must-read for every web developer). Most of the design ideas are inspired by what’s out there.
